About Deflock SLO

We are San Luis Obispo County residents who believe in civil liberties, accountable government, and communities where you can go about your day without your movements being recorded by a private surveillance company.

Our mission

Deflock SLO exists to end the SLO County Sheriff's Department's contract with Flock Safety and establish a meaningful surveillance oversight policy that gives residents a voice in how their communities are monitored.

We are not anti-law-enforcement. We believe effective public safety and civil liberties are compatible — and that mass, warrantless surveillance of innocent residents is neither effective nor just.

We are inspired by similar efforts in Richmond, Mountain View, and other California communities that have examined Flock Safety closely and decided it has no place in their towns.

What we're asking for

  • Immediate suspension of the Flock Safety contract pending a full public review
  • A public accounting of all camera locations, data-sharing agreements, and costs
  • A community-led surveillance oversight process before any future ALPR contract is signed
  • Adoption of a Surveillance Technology Ordinance (STO) requiring Board approval and annual audits for any surveillance technology

This campaign is part of a growing movement of communities pushing back against Flock Safety deployments across California. If you are in another community dealing with Flock cameras, you are welcome to use this site as a template.
